Description
KHR’s Finnish partners, ARKKI ApS, won and produced the master plan for Ørestad. From APRT to ARKKI In 1994 Ørestadsselskabet arranged an international architectural competition for a complete master plan for Ørestad. Based on a public debate about the competition’s four winning proposals, and following the recommendation of the Ørestad Council, Ørestadsselskabet selecteted the successful Finnish team of Aaro Artto, Teemu Palo, Yrjö Rossi, Hannu Tikka, and Matti Kaijansinkko to draw up the proposal for the future master plan. After winning this selection, the Finnish studio, APRT, formed a joint venture with KHR arkitekter under the name ARKKI ApS. Workshop for new ideas The unified plan was presented to the City of Copenhagen by Ørestadsselskabet in July 1995. The following year, the city agreed on a zoning plan which determined the boundaries of the future Ørestad. The defining features of the original winning project have been kept intact. The Ørestad districts share a high density of tall buildings in common, which will assert themselves as a contrast to the nearby Fælled’s large horizontal landscape. The Ørestad is to serve as a testing ground for new ideas and later serve to display Copenhagen’s planning and architecture at the end of the 20th century and at the beginning of the 21st.
